Bio

Kara has served as the Executive Director of Downtown Frederick Partnership since October 2002. Under her leadership, the Partnership has become a nationally recognized historic preservation-based economic development nonprofit dedicated to enhancing, promoting, and preserving the vitality, livability, and diversity of Downtown Frederick. The organization utilizes the Main Street Program, a proven downtown revitalization framework developed by the National Main Street Center, which drives success in over 1,000 communities across the United States. Before joining the Partnership, Kara spent five years in San Antonio as a neighborhood planner and special projects coordinator. Her career also includes professional experience in North Carolina, Iowa, and Missouri, spanning roles in nonprofits, government agencies, and consulting. Kara holds a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With over 30 years of experience in urban planning and downtown development, Kara is committed to fostering thriving, sustainable communities.
