As Public Space Manager, Talib Shakir is responsible for ensuring Mount Vernon Triangle remains clean, safe, and welcoming by: managing the ongoing upkeep and appearance of the neighborhood’s public realm; overseeing daily litter pick-up, neighborhood beautification, public space maintenance, community safety, and homeless outreach and support efforts; collaborating with property and business owners and managers, multiple local and federal agencies and policing jurisdictions, and other key stakeholders on matters important to the day-to-day quality of life of those who live, work, do business, and entertain in Mount Vernon Triangle; and supervising MVT CID’s seven-person contract crew of on-site clean team ambassadors. Talib most recently served as the Ward 6 Community Relations Specialist in the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services where he resolved a multitude of public space issues and other civic engagement matters in and around Mount Vernon Triangle. A native Washingtonian and current District resident, Talib is fluent in three languages (English, Spanish, and Arabic) and enjoys attending cultural events, exploring different cities, meeting new people, and spending time outdoors as well as well as with family and friends.
